Transforming e-commerce with scent-sational solutions
Aroma-Zone, a French trailblazer in natural cosmetics and aromatherapy, has built a loyal following by championing sustainability, ingredient transparency, and DIY beauty. From essential oils to cosmetic bases, their products are rooted in quality and natural origins, empowering customers to create their own wellness routines.
With increasing demand across Europe and beyond, Aroma-Zone needed to upgrade its digital experience to support global growth. Their existing platform was no longer meeting performance or scalability needs, especially as the brand expanded into new markets through both physical stores and international e-commerce. Aroma-Zone has been using the commercetools platform since 2019, but it was time to expand the digital architecture with new features to enable further international growth.
That’s where supersonic stepped in. We restructured the digital architecture to ensure speed, flexibility, and resilience. The checkout flow was optimised to reduce friction and improve conversions, while new features were added to enhance the customer journey and simplify operations across multiple regions. Thanks to the MACH approach (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, and Headless), the platform is agile enough to seamlessly evolve with market and technological changes.
The result? A future-proof e-commerce foundation that enables Aroma-Zone to scale with confidence, delivering seamless, accessible natural beauty experiences to customers around the world.

Challenge
Although Aroma-Zone held a strong market position, the existing digital setup highlighted the need for a more agile infrastructure to support rapid growth and innovation. Recognising the need for greater scalability, flexibility, and development agility, Aroma-Zone embarked on a bold technological transformation to power its future digital ambitions. A modern MACH approach emerged as the foundation for a future-proof architecture.
Solution
Aroma-Zone partnered with supersonic to overcome existing constraints and unlock new capabilities. What began as targeted improvements to user journeys (Single Sign-On and Guest Checkout) quickly evolved into a strategic collaboration, where both teams worked closely together to develop features aligned with Aroma-Zone’s goals. By focusing on predefined KPIs and embracing an agile approach, we were able to anticipate opportunities and adapt to evolving priorities with confidence. This continuous development process united us as one team, giving us the strategic flexibility to drive innovation and elevate their e-commerce platform. This agility, combined with the flexibility of the commercetools platform, enabled us to quickly adapt and continuously optimise the platform in line with Aroma-Zone's e-commerce ambitions.
We guided Aroma-Zone through a partial refactor and migration to Nuxt 3, enabling a more agile and performant frontend. Key improvements included:
Fast, seamless logins via Google and Facebook, with Apple sign-in coming soon.
Transitioning from the previous Adyen setup via VSF to a more streamlined payment experience opened the door to a faster, more flexible checkout process.
A frictionless purchase experience, no account needed. Post-purchase, users are encouraged to create an account, with order data automatically linked.
GBP was added to support Aroma-Zone’s UK expansion and boost international reach. The addition of Swiss franc (CHF) will follow shortly.
This transformation was delivered through a lean Kanban workflow, in close collaboration with Aroma-Zone’s in-house team. With daily communication via Microsoft Teams and weekly status calls, we aligned priorities quickly and worked as one integrated team, from technical ideation to future feature planning.

Result
The result? A faster, more intuitive checkout process that significantly improved the user experience. Features like Guest Checkout and SSO enhanced ease of use and reduced dropout rates, leading to more successful purchases and higher customer satisfaction.
For the Aroma-Zone team, the refactored setup removed earlier constraints, empowering them to innovate and grow with confidence. The platform now aligns with both their global ambitions and the expectations of today’s digital-savvy customers.

These efforts clearly paid off, as shown by the brand’s growing recognition among consumers. Aroma-Zone was named Best E-commerce Site of the Year 2025 by Fevad in the "Hygiene, Beauty & Health" category, outranking major players like Amazon and Decathlon. In 2024, the brand also received the Trophée Meilleure Marque for cosmetic products, backed by an impressive customer satisfaction score of 9.51 out of 10. And according to OC&C’s annual Brand Preference Report in France, Aroma-Zone ranked at the top for value for money, reliability, and product quality. A strong testament to the impact of their digital strategy on both customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.
